Lot of two ca 1920 silverprint photographs 7 ½ x 9 5/8. Images of Stell “Jimmy” Romig. Period pencil id on back, played with the Hiram Co. I could find little regarding this actress, other than she was active in the teens with her sister in burlesque billed as Della and Stella--the Romig Twins (specifically performed at the New Tivoli Theater, Seattle, Jan. 18, 1914.
She must have been known as a cross dresser performer, much in the same vein as Ella Wesner or Mazie Trumbull.
During the Vaudeville era, which spanned roughly from the 1880s to the 1930s, cross-dressing was a popular element of performances, with both men and women adopting the attire and mannerisms of the opposite sex for comedic effect or to showcase different talents.
Hodson photographer’s imprint. Back has some old paper affixed around perimeter; photographs are in fine condition.
