Lot of five different British Military Unit Histories compiled by Richard Cannon. Richard Cannon (1779–1865) was a compiler of regimental records for the British Army. On 1 January 1802 Cannon was appointed to a clerkship at the Horse Guards, and attained the grade of first-clerk in 1803.Under a Horse Guards order, dated 1 January 1836, signifying the royal commands that an historic account of the services of every regiment in the British Army should be published under the superintendence of the Adjutant-General, the work of compilation was entrusted to Cannon, at that time principal clerk in the Adjutant-General's office. During the ensuing seventeen years historical records of all then existing regiments of cavalry, and of forty-two regiments of infantry of the line, were thus issued "by authority", all of which were prepared under Cannon's direction. Included in this lot are: Historical Record of the 10th (Lincolnshire) Regiment of the Foot (1857); Historical Record of the 74th (Highlanders) (1850); Historical Record of the 13th (First Somerset) Light Infantry (1858); Historical Record of the 36th (Herefordshire) Regiment of Foot (1853); and Historical Record of the 13th Regiment of Light Dragoons. (1852). All bound in publishers red cloth bindings. Unfortunately, all plates have been removed by a prior owner. Some books have pencil notations on the title pages. 12mo.  Between 84 & 146 pages. One copy looks to have been reglued. Most remain good. While the plates are missing, the historical information is still here and very readable. See scans for more details and sold as a lot of five only.
