The Canon of the New Testament Vindicated is an 18th-century apologetic book written by John Richardson and originally printed by William Bowyer in 1700. This is the third edition with a date printing mistake. Printed as 1619 s/b 1719.The Canon of the New Testament Vindicated is a historical defense and apologetic work written by Anglican clergyman Stephen Nye. This book was written as a point-by-point reply to the skeptical philosopher John Toland, who wrote a controversial book called Amyntor in 1699. The Skeptic (John Toland): Toland claimed in Amyntor that the New Testament could not be trusted. He argued that early Christians faked a lot of letters and gospels, and that nobody truly knew which books were real and which were fake for many years. John Richardson (1647–1725) was a Cambridge scholar and rector. He wrote this text to defend the authenticity of the 27 New Testament books. The famous London printer William Bowyer published the first edition in 1700. A second, expanded edition was published by Bowyer for Richard Sare in 1701, and subsequent reprints were also produced. John Toland’s book Amyntor (1699) listed many lost and disputed early Christian writings, suggesting that the modern New Testament was just a random selection of church texts. Richardson’s Vindicated argued that the early church was highly careful. He detailed how early Christians tested books against strict rules, like whether an apostle wrote it, to make sure only genuine scriptures were accepted. 130 pgs with six pages of as for Richard Sare books.
