First edition of this Civil War memorial volume, commemorating soldiers from Albany County, New York, who died in service during the Civil War. Compiled by journalist and editor Rufus Wilson, this richly detailed work includes extensive biographical sketches, personal reminiscences, letters, battlefield reports, and engraved portraits of fallen soldiers.

Original black publisher's with gilt to front and spine. Beveled edges to boards. Tall octavo. [viii] (2) pp. 11-870 with color frontispiece and eight b/w illustrations. Small bookplate of the Biddle University Library. Hand written gift inscription reads "Mother from her son" with the date stamp of Samuel T. Thorburn-Dec 24 '66.  Some sporadic foxing to the edges of the illustrations. Cloth split at exterior hinges but covers and binding firmly intact.

Biddle University (now Johnson C. Smith University) was established in 1867 as the Bide Memorial Institute, a private historically black school in Charlotte, NC.
