Munich, Germany, M.E. Hibbert, 1852
fine
1852 letter from Munich to Anna Maria Oates in Bath, from M.A. Hibbert, a relative living in Clapham but traveling in Europe. Anti-German and anti-Catholic sentiment, and description of the Panorama of Saltzburg, and a moonlit steamer trip on the Danube. Anna Maria Oates (1799-1870) was a sister of George Hibbert Oates (1791-1837) of Jamaica. The writer mentions Letitia Hibbert who died 1854 aged 88. The Hibberts of Clapham were beneficiaries under the 1805 will of slaver Thomas Hibbert Jr. (1788-1879) of Jamaica, who settled in Buckinghamshire. The panorama of Salzburg that is mentioned was completed in 1829 by Johann Michael Sattler (1786-1847).
