Auckland NZ, Sparrow Industrial Pictures, 1953
very good
1953 presentation album of the visit of Queen Elizabeth II to a New Zealand stud farm. Blue leatherette covers, 11.5”x9” with 13 black & white glossy promotional photographs of the lodge and event, by Sparrow Industrial Pictures Ltd., Auckland. The Queen, Prince Philip, Prime Minister & entourage arrive in limousines to a parade of prize horses. Loose items include annotated clipping of the royal trip (“Dress worn at alton Lodge”) including coverage of the Alton Lodge trout lunch for 170 using two of the above photographs. Also: 2 pamphlets “Alton Lodge Stud” and “Balloch, Alton Lodge Stud, Werenga NZ 1948.” Also 4 page typescript of a description of the Queen’s visit written by Mrs. Fletcher, send to Mary Pollard in Niagara Falls, which goes into great detail about the changes in their Lodge - Matai & Kauri wood paneling, etc. The Queen apparently ate well at lunch; was annoyed at the photographers and ordered them away, then took out her own movie camera to photograph the horses. Also: photograph of the Queen Mother at another NZ visit. Plus postcards and a Christmas card 1935 from the Fletchers with photos of their Auckland house.
