1844 printed circular/lettersheet for the publications of The New World newspaper in New York, with letter from publisher Jonas Winchester to G & C Merriam of Springfield, hoping they would carry his works on commission. George and Charles Merriam established their publishing firm in Springfield in 1831. Jonas Winchester published The New World, a weekly newspaper, from October 26, 1839 to May 1845. A family newspaper, it had reprinted Dickens, Carlyle, etc.
