Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Gooderham Hotel Company, 1903
excellent
1903 King Edward Hotel “illustrated guest book” 16 pages + wraps, 7”x9.5” printed by Miln-Bingham, Toronto. Each page bordered in green; 12 photogravures of interior and exterior, plus one of a steamboat in Toronto harbor, and one of the Canadian National Exhibition - the hotel benefiting from the proximity to both. The grand building was designed by architect E.J. Lennox for George Gooderham, and King Edward VII granted them the use of his name the year of his coronation (1901) when construction began. The text emphasizes the potential of Toronto to become a world city - with the hotel as a beacon. Special busses met trains and steamers, modeled on the plan of the Paris Opera Busses. Two pages, at front and back, declare “The Only Fire-proof Hotel in Toronto.” The historic building has been restored to this elegance.
