Lyme CT, Frederick William Lord, 1845
excellent
1845 letter from Doctor Frederick William Lord (1800-1860) in Lyme CT to his adopted daughter Sarah Holdredge, newly married to Henry Babcock Noyes (1814-1889) in Elmira NY, with an appended letter from a cousin Sarah Wing. Hopes that the couple will return after seeing Niagara. Both writers refer to a tin box of wedding gifts from Mrs. Lord: “a whole cashmere shawl about 3 yards long, silk for a dress, a pair black silk stockings, a superb gold bracelet, elegant wedding ear rings, an elegant snuff box tortoise shell sprinkled with gold in a shower.”
