A full deck of commercially printed playing cards featuring 1960’s contemporary artists, critics, and gallerists- Stella, Greenberg, Bacon, Motherwell, Kelly, Serra, Rose, Nevelson, Fischbach, Arman, Bellamy, Parsons among others- with their heads displayed as a photomontage onto action poses of football players. Amusing and often humorous captions such as- Geldzahler, Tight End; Nevelson, Linebacker; Bacon, Running Back- accompany each card.
Don Celender (1931-2005) was an art professor and conceptual artist who championed accessibility and humor in his artistic practice. Celender was represented by OK Harris Gallery and taught at Macalester College in St. Paul.
