'Little Orphan Annie' was originally created in 1924 by Harold Gray and was seen in national newspapers for 50 years.
The original strip was named for a poem entitled 'Little Orphant Annie', written by James Whitcomb Riley in 1885. Following the successful Broadway run of 'Annie-The Musical' in 1977, cartoonist Leonard Starr revived the original strip and renamed it 'Annie'. Starr continued to draw 'Annie' until his retirement in 2000; these 'Annie' comic strips are from Leonard Starr's 1979-era.
