Edwin Augustus Parrott was the son of Thomas Parrott, a merchant from Dayton, Ohio. He was appointed Lieutenant Colonel of the First Ohio Regiment in August 1861 and resigned in February 1864. He was an elected member of the House of Representatives in 1863. Parrott was also the president of the Dayton Malleable Iron Works Company. This letteris from the Col. regarding his missing luggage. in June of 1862. Text below:
"First Regional
June 27, 62
Captain.
I regret to learn that on yesterday you gave a frustrating order to the officer in charge of my train to throw away several items belonging to the officers baggage and the Sargent in chg supporting that you had no right to give such an order obliged it- The baggage of this command has been inspected by the officer properly declared for that business and has been paked (?) It is not your province to say of what that luggage shall consist if it does not exceed the weight Inscribed on orders nor do I recognize your right to take the enforcement of orders in my command out of my hands unlys you are specially authorized to do so. Believing then that your order was entirely unauthorized and the weight of my baggage conforming to the order and the loss of my cooking stove being a serious personal inconvenience I have to request that you replace the article which you ordered to be abandoned.
