Title page - Seventy-Seven Maxims addressed by S.V.S. Wilder, ESQ, To His Grandsons
"Mr. Wilder lived to the age of nearly eighty-five. His extensive acquaintance with the world gave him opportunities for observation very rarely enjoyed; and he witnessed many sad scenes of failure in reaching the great ends of life, for want of well-considered counsels.
His grandchildren, desirous of holding in remembrance his cherished memory, and the excellent maxims he prepared for them, have given them this convenient form for preservation and more extensive usefulness. March 28, 1865."
31 page small book that Mr. Wilder's grandchildren put together from the letter that Mr. Wilder wrote to his grandsons on May 20, 1857 in White Lake, NY. After a brief introduction, he lists 77 maxims for life upon attaining the age of 77. Nice little handbook with advice for life. 3 5/8" x 5 1/2"
Additionally, there is a brief handwritten note included "With paternal affection I salute you" signed by Mr. Wilder and dated 1963.
