Richmond, VA, American Tobacco Company, c.1910
Very good
Two 3”x2” pieces of silk on which is printed a fine lithograph of an orange butterfly. Cigarette silks were one type of free product inserts common in at the turn of the century in order to increase competition among tobacco companies through the popular collectibles.
Each of these shows an attractive orange butterfly not seen elsewhere. Both have “Factory No. 25, Second Dist. VA” printed across the top. One appears to be at rest in profile and the other is in flight – both are pictured from a profile view, rare amongst cigarette silks.
