Harper's Weekly, A Journal of Civilization, the popular Republican political magazine known for its high-quality illustrations was published from 1857 to 1916 by Harper & Brothers in NYC. Eleven 1872 issues covering a wide range of political and social concerns of the day, such as the discovery of the lost explorer Dr. Livingstone and his famous encounter with Henry Morton Stanley, corruption in Tammany Hall in NYC, the presidential election of Ulysses S Grant, the equine flu, and the Great Boston Fire.

Each issue contains serialized chapters of fiction from both well-known and anonymous writers. These include George Eliot’s Middlemarch, Mary Elizabeth Braddon’s “Colonel Benyon’s Entanglement”, and Wilkie Collins’ “Poor Miss Finch”. Five issues also contain supplemental issues offering further fiction and/or nonfiction reading. Three of these are from the 12-part series, London: A Pilgrimage, by Gustave Doer and Blanchard Jerrold. 

Worn at edges and bindings to varying degrees. The July 13th and supplement to Nov. 30th are both uncut. Occasional tears to main body. Overall good.
