Ann Arbor, Michigan, The Bank of Washtenaw, 1855
well used
1855 One dollar bank note from The Bank of Washenaw. The bank was chartered in 1834 by Michigan Territory Legislature. It opened in 1835 in Ann Arbor in the "old Chapin" house. Organized by a group of local Ann Arbor business men including Verner Chapin. The bank collapsed in 1846, was reopened and finally closed by court order May 22, 1855.
This is not your usual well known local bank. Good addition for the early bank note collector.
