Two gorgeous early travel-tourism booklets featuring Southern California and the southwestern United States:
1) The Garden of Allah, featuring outstanding color graphics throughout by Richard Fayerweather Babcock. This is a Golden State Limited railroad promotional booklet from 1934--the Golden State route being from Chicago to the United States with luxury travel in Pullman train cars. For more, see the images and the discussion here. Very good plus condition with light age toning.
2) Southern California: Year Round Vacation Land Supreme, "compiled for the benefit of the intending Southern California visitor" by C. G. Milham, Executive Secretary of the All-Year Club of Southern California, Los Angeles, 1926. The booklet is full of black and white images depicting Southern California as the ultimate, always sunny playground. Yachting, beaches, fishing, golfing and even polo are featured, with a nice centerfold map. In good condition with an excellent cover, but it does have a ~1/4” tear at the base of many internal pages. More on the All-Year Club’s advertising efforts.
