Kickapoo Indian Oil Dream Book:

I've provided a representative sampling of the internal pages, but for a complete examination of this 19th Century medical almanac-style booklet, use this link:

KICKAPOO.INDIAN.DREAM.BOOK.on.FLICKR.

The example on the above linked Flickr site appears at casual examination to be the same as this example that I'm selling... EXCEPT for the last page.

The linked Flickr example shows a White Girl on page 32 for the Paper Doll promotion, while this example for sale by me here sports a

"Wild-West"  illustration on page 32 says:
"Wonderful Wild West and Kickapoo Indian Paper Dolls  ... with

Buffalo Bill in the Saddle."

The testimonials that I noticed were 1895.  Promotions are found for

Kickapoo Indian Prairie Plant Sure Cure for Female Weakness / Kickapoo Indian Oil Quick Cure for Man or Beast / Kickapoo Indian Sagwa for Nervous People / Kickapoo Indian Salve for Fever Sores and Piles etc. / Kickapoo Indian Worm Killer / Kickapoo Indian Cough Cure the Great Indian Vegetable Remedy for Soar (sic) Throat, Influenza, etc., etc.

"In this age of rush and hurry, nervousness  ... is becoming more and more prevalent every year.  Each succeeding generation seem to be more afflicted, so that unless something is soon done we will be known in a few generations as a nation little better than maniacs.... ..... fill the graves of suicides...."  etc. etc. etc.
Shocking, Entertaining, Frightening, Comical... Wonderful condition, with 32 pages of fanciful nonsense and quackery to make you laugh, cry, and feel it all!

"Dreams ... Significance..."

What does it mean when you dream of Lobsters?  (Hint: "... the lobster is one of the gayest Lotharios in the animal creation.")

From Bacon to Yellow Birds, this book offers imaginative interpretations of the symbols and events of the Victorian-era consumer's semi-conscious night life.  (I wonder if Sigmund Freud ever read a copy of this?)

Everything you always wanted to know about everything your mind might conjure up when your head is down.

"Sleep, the Brother of Death .... Among all simple people who live close to Nature dreams are of the utmost importance... Tis is especially so among the Indians, and the Kickapoos in particularly, whose Medicine Men have studied nature so closely...."

So begins this guide to every reader's greatest hopes, fears, and ultimate destiny.

Kickapoo Traveling Medicine Shows:   (from Wikipedia)

"The two largest, most successful American medicine shows were Hamlin's Wizard Oil Company, founded in Chicago by John and Lysander Hamlin, and the Kickapoo Indian Medicine Company, founded in 1881 by Charles Bigelow and John Healey."

The Kickapoo Indian Medicine Company created traveling shows based around sham Indian presentational ceremonies, such as war dances and marriages. 'Representatives' of the Kickapoo tribe translated for the Indians and sold Sagwa, the most famous patent medicine. The company also presented other forms of entertainment, such as vaudeville shows, trained dog acts, dances, and acrobatics."
