=========================================

- "666 Salve" - Monticello Drug Co.

"666 Salve" was a patent medicine produced by the Monticello Drug Company, originally established in the 1890s by pharmacist T.S. Roberts Sr. in Monticello, Florida. The company later incorporated in 1908 and moved to Jacksonville, Florida.
The origin of the name "666" is rooted in a prescription Roberts wrote to treat a rural African American preacher suffering from malaria and chills. The formula was written on a prescription pad bearing the number "666," and after its success, others began requesting "prescription number 666," leading to the moniker for Roberts Remedies #666.

Initially, the 666 remedies were primarily known for treating malaria, according to The Florida Times-Union. However, as malaria cases declined, the product's use shifted, becoming popular as a remedy for colds and fever.

The original formula of the 666 liquid, which is now discontinued, reportedly contained 40% alcohol, codeine, quinine, a cough suppressant, and a strong laxative. The Florida Times-Union states that this formula is no longer available.
