This handbill or small broadside was offered by wounded Civil War veterans in search of donations. "The Crippled Soldier's Song" was handed out to potential donors to aid the disabled Union veterans of the war. Apparently, the government was doing little to support them, and these fund-raising pleas were often met with disdain by the public.
It features a six-stanza twenty-four line verse explaining the plight of the wounded survivor, using words like "mutilated" and "crippled." There is a small picture of a soldier at the top.
3 1/4" x 7 3/8" - printed on paper stock.
