Toronto, Lumiere Press, 1994, Cloth, Slipcase
Fine
2 volumes in slipcase: 54 p.; [2] plates of tipped-in reproductions (one a photograph by George Tice, the other a casual portrait of Lee Witkin and Evelyne Daitz, by Colette Alvarez Urbajtel), [24] plates of illustrations, chronology of exhibitions (285 exhibitions between 1969 and 1993); accompanied by case containing original gelatine-silver print by Manuel Alvarez Bravo, 'En Tianguis' (circa 1930s), 8.75" x 5.75", printed by Colette Alvarez Urbajtel (Bravo's wife), and signed by Bravo on the verso. The text volume was issued in a numbered edition of 250 copies, without a print; this slipcased edition, with the print of Bravo's 'En Tianguis', was issued in an edition of 25 copies. This copy is marked "A/P 1', and belonged to Evelyne Daitz, the Director/Owner of The Witkin Gallery at this point: Bravo has signed an inscription to her on the dedication page, and an inscription to her from Bunnell appears at the end of his essay. Accompanied by a prospectus for this publication, which has a reproduction of the Bravo print. Composed in Linotype Granjon and handprinted on mould-made Molino paper; design, composition, presswork, and binding by Michael Torosian. A very handsome hand-made presentation, celebrating the first successful commercial gallery of photography.
