A story of women's resistance during China's Cultural Revolution. It debuted as a ballet there in 1964 & was made one of the "Eight Model Operas," hailed for its "successful combination of Western ballet technique with Chinese folk dancing." This 1973 pamphlet represents the First English-language edition of the story, in 39 pages, illustrated with black-and-white drawings throughout. 12mo (4.75" x 7.50"), with colorfully decorated wrappers, sewn binding. Condition is VG+: bright & clean & colorful, stitching secure, pages show only a whisper of tanning & are completely unmarked. Back cover is unevenly yellowed with a pen notation to bottom inner corner. One creased corner, very mild rubbing to other corners, tiny horizontal tear intruding from spine into front cover just below midway.
