The original address was delivered by Ruffner in 1847 and printed in Lexington, Va. This is a reprint by The Green Bookman from Bridgewater, Va. in 1933. The original is rare and expensive when found. Ruffner argues that slavery should be banned from Western Virginia. He notes the power of East Virginia a the powerful plantations that are located there. He claims that the Virginia legislature strongly favors keeping slavery intact but points out the immorality of it.
