Frankfurt, Apud haeredes Christiani Egenolphi, 1560, Quarter leather
Later binding; toned and spotted leaves with manuscript notes
De tuenda bona valetudine translates from Latin as "On Preserving Good Health," — a classic 16th-century medical guide by Helius Eobanus Hessus offering practical advice on diet, hygiene, and daily wellness.
16mo Latin volume, printed in black type with woodcut illustrations and diagrams. The first title page is dated 1560; a second title page within the volume reads De gubernanda sanitate and names Frankfurt and the heirs of Christian Egenolff. The final colophon shown is dated 1567.
Later quarter leather binding with marbled paper-covered boards, gilt-lettered spine label, and brown edges. The text includes woodcuts depicting food, drink, and other subjects related to health and diet.
A handwritten inscription on a preliminary leaf; additional pencil or ink notes appear on the rear endpaper. The leaves are toned and spotted, with occasional marks and small stains; the recent binding is sound.
