Prospectus of an American Edition of Dr. William Smith’s “Dictionary of the Bible.” New York: Hurd and Houghton, [ca. 1867–1870]. 8vo. 4 pp. + integral specimen leaf as back page (pp. 44– on “Agriculture”) with wood-engraved illustrations. The prospectus outlines the planned American edition of Smith’s Dictionary, to be edited by H.B. Hackett and Ezra Abbot, and emphasizes its scholarly improvements over the English edition. Subscription terms listed. A very good copy with light toning, minor wear to spine fold.
