Tennyson, Alfred. GODIVA.
Coventry: Taunton, Printer, [c. 1860s–1870s].
Broadside, approx. 15.5 x 6.5 inches, printed on one side only, split along the central horizontal fold.
Beautifully printed decorative broadside featuring Alfred Tennyson’s poem “Godiva,” framed with an ornate red and gold floral border. The first line reads: “I waited for the train at Coventry;” — referencing the famous local legend of Lady Godiva’s ride. Printed at the foot: “Taunton, Printer, Coventry.” Likely produced in Coventry as a keepsake or souvenir for Victorian visitors interested in the city’s famed legend and its literary celebration by the Poet Laureate.
Some foxing (primarily at the bottom margin) and a clean but pronounced split along the central fold line. Minor edge wear, a few stains on back, but overall an attractive and scarce survival.
Keywords: Broadside, Lady Godiva, Alfred Tennyson, Victorian Printing, Coventry, Decorative Printing, Souvenir Print.
