Very good
3 1/2" x 7". Very good. Negative 1859. Printing 1861.
Publisher James Mason Hutchings of San Francisco organized the photographic excursion to Yosemite Valley as a follow-up to his 1855 excursion which produced articles for his Hutchings' Illustrated California Magazine illustrated from nature by artist Thomas Ayres. Upon a request from Hutchings, Daguerreotypist Robert Vance dispatched his gallery manager C. L. Weed to document the event. Weed produced twenty full-plate glass negatives and forty stereoviews. In late June, 1859, the salt print stereo's were exhibited at Vances Studio to great acclaim. In 1860 the negatives were purchases by Anthony & Co. of New York who released the first series that same year.
