Some of the very first published images of college football players, made by the Boston Domino Postcard Co. Intended as scorecards for the 1905 season; the Carlisle Indian School card appears only in Beckett’s listing of the (9) card set in online research.
Carlisle Indian School players : Fremont (pos. Samuel), Long-Horn, Lubo (Antonio Lubo), Nick Bowen Captain (played w/ Jim Thorpe & shows on a 1907 payroll), Kennedy (pos. Raymond), Little Old Man (on the same payroll in 1907 & 08), Strong Arm, Peconga (presumably Willis) & Archiquette (Chauncey Edward — Jim Thorpe’s admitted hero — who was well past school age here & working in the school’s office).
Harvard players : Foster, Starr, Carr, White, Hurley (Captain), Burr, Brill, Squires, Hall & Kersberg.
November 4, 1905 & Howard 23, Carlisle 11 has been penned in margins as expected. Sent from Cambridge, November 6th. Cancellation bleed to both cards, minor soiling & thumb creases particularly at corners.
