Item Details

On a good will mission conceived by Teddy Roosevelt (and led by Charles S. Sperry) to ease tensions after the Russo Japanese War, the American fleet of (16) battleships arrived in Yokohama a day late for their visit (due to weather conditions) — on October 18, 1908 and this program documents the lavish events planned.

Officers were hosted by an endless string of nobles including the commander of the Japanese fleet Admiral Togo and lunch at the Emperor’s Palace. The ships crews were treated to University Baseball Games, Boat Races between the countries’s fleets, Fireworks & Art Exhibits with full use of the Imperial Railway.

28 pp. w/ text duplicated in English & Japanese with the schedule from October 17th to 24th. Expected handling wear (top right page corners lightly creased from use) and toning / staining to the paper covers.
