Item Details

Photo collage that spells VICTORY w/ integrated head shots. These photos were arranged by a man named Esau L. Weaver who served at Camp Pickett Virginia in a black Fire Unit.

 

Affixed to the reverse of the collage & Identified Pacific War Zone // Solomon Islands // Alpha Phi Alpha, 4 x 5”. It was only in April of 1942, under direct order of FDR, that Black men were again allowed to serve in positions other than mess halls. Seabees were responsible for engineering new infrastructure to manage cargo in the Pacific theatre.

 

(2) 11 x 14” album pages w/ edge tears. Remarkable find documenting high responsibility positions in the American military after decades of restrictions keeping Black service domestic.
