First edition. A near fine copy in near fine jacket. The geographical, historical and cultural border here is the Mississippi, more or less (For convenience, Texas is moved east of the river). Includes many apparently ephemeral journalistic pieces as well as the more enduring works (of Downing, for example). Its scope, however, does not admit Olmsted's tour of the slave states, which, while not narrowly addressed to architectural matters, certainly was relevant to the culture in which the architecture grew.
