Privately printed in an edition of 60 numbered copies signed by Robert Bringhurst and Richard Wagener. Fine in fine slipcase.
The book was printed using Bembo typeface, which was created at Salfords, Surrey, in 1929 by the Monotype Corporation at the urging of the typographic historian Stanley Morison. The roman is based on a font cut by Francesco Griffo for Aldus Manutius in 1495. Griffo's roman had no companion italic, but Monotype's revival has two of them. The one used here (known as the Fairbank italic) was designed in London in 1928 by the calligrapher Alfred Fairbank. Rialto roman, designed in the 1990s by Giovanni Di Faccio in Venice and Lui Karner in Texing, Austria, is used as a titling face. The text was set in digital form by Robert Bringhurst on Quadra Island, British Columbian, and converted to three-dimensional photopolymer at Crown Flexo in Antioch, California. The paper is Twinrocker Cream, made at the Twinrocker Mill in Brookston, Indiana. Text and engravings were printed by Richard Wagener on a Vandercook Universal I press at Mixolydian Editions in Petaluma, CA, in the winter of 2024. The book was bound by John DeMerritt in Emeryville, CA, using cover paper create by Heather Peters at Society of Hermits, Canyon County, CA.
