Privately printed in an edition of 310 numbered copies signed by both Robinson Jeffers and Ansel E. Adams (Broomfield A7b; Alberts 51; Magee p. 59 #110). Gift presentation in ink on the front free endpaper. The spine and boards with minor cracking due to dry leather, boards with minor staining along the rear panel, else a tight and bright copy in fine slipcase.
Frontispiece sepia photographic portrait study of Jeffers by Ansel E. Adams. The Title and Initials printed in orange-red and designed by Valenti Angelo. Introduction by B. H. Lehman. This is the second book to be published with Ansel Adams photography. Printed with hand-set Goudy Modern on Van Gelder Zonen watermarked hand-made paper.
This copy is ONLY ONE OF SIXE copies specially bound at the Press for presentation by Edwin Grabhorn. The Secretary of The Book Club of California advised Alberts, "In addition to the regular edition of 310 copies, a few printer's copies were made up and bound in half red* morocco. These were signed by the author but not numbered. Mr. Grabhorn tells me that there were not more than ten copies in this form. Most of these were used for gift purposes and were marked by him 'printer's copy'." (Alberts p. 44) *no copy was bound in half-red morocco.
Presentation inscription on the front free endpaper, which reads as follows: "For Sylvia - For all the kindness she has given that we can never return we give our hearts and our hearts love - Willard and Lillian."
