[London, et al.]: [Ca. 1930-40]. 51 envelopes and postal wrappers from 9x12cm to 24x30cm, a few being just the hand-addressed label torn from the larger envelope. Each is addressed in Machen's hand in green or black and postmarked between Ca. 1930-1940. Worn, some tears, smudges, expected soiling and folds. Generally very good.
In all, this lot contains a sizeable amount of manuscript material in the influential horror author, Arthur Machen's, neat and unmistakable hand. Unfortunately, all the correspondence, and presumably manuscripts of Machen's works, are not present. John Gawsworth, born Terence Ian Fytton Armstorng was a close friend, literary champion, and biographer of Arthur Machen, compiling an extensive, ultimately unpublished biography of the author in 1934. Their correspondence, spanning nearly two decades, is principally preserved at the Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas.
