Item Details

San Francisco: O.H. Elliott, 1894. First edition. 8vo, [5], 423, [2]pp. Frontis, plates. Publisher's red cloth decorated in gilt and black. Boards slightly dulled and bumped on the edges. Clean internally and nearly fine.

Very strange imprint from San Francisco by the professor and minister, Russell Kelso Carter (1849-1928).  Carter argues spiritualist mediums are actually communicating with demons.  He weaves this and other attacks on spiritualism in with some interesting Christian arguments on the original sin, for instance, stating Cain was in fact the son of Satan.  A very nice copy of a weird and scarce book.
