Amsterdam, Stedelijk Museum, 1949
First, very good condition. See description and photos.
This is an original 1949 Dutch exhibition poster titled "Nederlandse Goblins door...ontworpen voor Gehéniau” (Dutch Tapestries...designed for Gehéniau), designed by the legendary graphic designer, typographer, and museum director Willem Sandberg (1897-1984) for the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. The printer was Stadsdrukkerij, Amsterdam.
Size: 27.875 x 39.5 inches
Very good, see images, which show small edge tears from handling, a repaired tear in the center top edge, not touching any text, and a 2.5 inch light stain in the lower center.
The poster features Sandberg's signature minimalist, asymmetric design philosophy, using strong typographic contrast, bright primary/secondary color palettes, and bold geometric layouts rather than photographic imagery.
The text on the right lists prominent Dutch artists of the mid-20th century who designed tapestries for the Gehéniau textile manufacturing firm in Veenendaal, including Kees Andrea, Susan van den Doel-Wiedenhoff, J. F. Doeve, Aart van Ewijk, Frits Klein, Ernée ’tHooft, Christian de Moor, Otto van Rees, Charles Roelofsz, Vordemberge Gildewart, Jeroen Voskuyl, and Jan Wiegers.
Cost of USPS Priority mailing will be added to the buyer's invoice.
