First edition. Issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Hell Gate Brewery, which was established by Ehret, a German immigrant, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in 1866. Includes a detailed history of the brewery and an overview of American brewing beginning in 1635. 8vo gilt-stamped dark green cloth-covered boards; unprinted spine; floral endpapers; 120 pages; profusely illustrated. About very good with gilt somewhat dulled, few small repairs to covers, frontis portrait of Ehret provided in facsimile, skinning to upper corner rear pastedown; and light foxing to front and rear blanks.
