Marbled endpapers and engraved frontispiece showing Adam and Eve in the garden. With engraved vignettes on title page and final leaf .
All paper edges gilt and with very good fore-edge painting 'Expulsion of Adam and Eve'.
Includes 'The life of John Milton' by Elijah Fenton (i - xvi), 'Criticism on Paradise Lost' by Samuel Johnson. (xvii - xli) and an excerpt from Mr. Hayley's Life of Milton: 'Milton's Moral Character'. (xliii - xlvi)
On the last page is an announcement:
