Very good.
Often referred to as the 1986 Presidential Series, the United States Postal Service issued a series of stamps in 1986 dedicated to the U.S. Presidents. This First Day Issue was May 22, 1986, at Chicago, Illinois.
8 ½ x 9 ½ example in superb condition featuring stamps with nine U.S. Presidents, noting “FIRST DAY OF ISSUE,” and signed by President Gerald R. Ford. To the left are the words 1841-1877 ERA OF UNIFICATION with an extraordinary imprint of a railroad identified as “COMPLETION OF THE FIRST TRANSCONTINENTAL RAILROAD.” The nine stamps feature John Tyler, James Polk, Zachary Taylor, Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson and Ulysses S. Grant.
The Era of Unification likely referred to a period marked by significant events like the Civil War and subsequent efforts to unify the country.
