Very good.
WILLIAM PORTER served as a Captain of a company in the 12th Virginia Regiment. He was severely wounded in the Battle of Cowpens and a witness to the surrender at Yorktown. Research also indicates that Porter served in the 2nd Virginia Regiment. In recognition of his service, the state of Virginia of which Kentucky was a part until 1792, made grants of land to Porter.
Immediately after the war, negative feelings between the Whigs and Tories were very strong and to escape such trials, Porter and his family moved to Kentucky.
