Very good condition. Light toning to edges plus very light soiling. Verso is blank with slightly more soiling. Hand coloring. No evidence this copy was bound. Previously rolled. 

Map of the South Pole region with the most up-to-date discoveries as of June 1831. Includes southern tip of South America, Falkland Islands, South Shetland Islands, Lord Auckland Isles, West Cape, Van Dieman Island, Island of Desolation, Marion & Crozet's Isles plus many smaller islands. Larger land masses outlined in hand coloring. 

Published by The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, which was founded three years earlier in London, by Lord Brougham. The Society's goal was to provide education of the aspiring working class and the Utilitarian ideal of 'Knowledge is Power.'
