Portfolio/Scrapbook for Artist Henry Marcus Moran, late 1920's to early 1950's.
Zippered leather portfolio (13 x 9.5 inches) covering 3-ring binder with black photo album pages. Includes many self-portraits of Moran with his paintings along with a collection of letters regarding his artwork. Includes over 50 laid in photos, negatives, postcards, several more letters and two advertising pieces for his Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania studio. Fair condition.
Henry Marcus Moran (1876-1960) was a portrait, landscape and still life artist who supplemented his income by teaching art. His early career was in California, also working in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington.
This book appears to have been his personal 'portfolio'--not for public use (a little too ratty for that) filled with photos of him posing with his work, letters from clients and several letters of reference.
One portrait of note included in this book is from Redbook Magazine of a young Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt, dated March 30, 1933.
