The Louisiana Supreme Court met for their September term in the town of Opelousas where they heard Francis P. Pitre, Senior, et als. v. William Offutt et als. This case is an action brought by the plaintiffs against the defendant, owners of the steamer “Aline" for the value of eighty-seven calves shipped by them on the steamer destined to New Orleans, and which they allege the defendants failed to deliver according to their agreement.
When the Aline ran ashore, the cattle were off-loaded in an attempt to lighten the ship. Subsequently, all the cattle were lost.
