Chicago, Lanward Publishing Company, 1888
Tourists' Guide to the Great Northwest via the Chicago, St. Paul and Kansas City Railway Illustrative and Descriptive--Issued by the Passenger Department, Chicago, St. Paul and Kansas City Railway, Lanward Publishing Company, Chicago, 1888. 12 x 9 inches, 32pp.
Not the prettiest of items. Pamphlet has been cased in a 20th century set of boards with homemade printed label to front. These boards are soiled. Binder's tape to first and last pages. Fore edge soiled. Appears to be complete.
Apparently unrecorded promotional booklet issued by the Passenger Department of the Chicago, St. Paul and Kansas City Railway. Printed in Chicago in 1888. Front manuscript label titles the booklet as "Tourist Guide to the Great Northwest".
Topics include The New Porkopolis (St. Paul, Minnesota), Packing Houses, St. Paul Minneapolis & Manitoba Railway, and the towns of Osakis, Alexandria, Ashby Park, and Devils Lake Minnesota. Then the booklet jumps to a 5-page feature on Yellowstone National Park, before returning to Minnesota and the St. Paul & Duluth Railroad.
The booklet then moves to Lake Superior and finally Dubuque and Des Moines Iowa.
Includes two half-page ads at back of booklet for F.J. Linnie & Co. and Lanward Publishing Company.
Altogether a unique booklet filled with many steel engravings and line drawings. Almost seems to be a mash-up from several publications merged into one. Scarce if not rare.
