Item Details

Philadelphia, A. Edw. Newton & Co., 1888

1st edition, 2nd issue (green ink on pink paper - Fleck F.7A.1b; Winterich #5). 24 ll, printed recto only. 12mo. 7-1/2" x 5-1/2". Pink silk moire binding, yellow ribbon tie. Gilt stamped lettering, vertical, to front cover right side. Pink eps. AEG. NB. Both Fleck & Winterich talk of a 'creme colored' binding, to my eye, this one a faint pink [result of aging, or an unrecorded variant?]. Some wear, soiling, staining [note top portion of front cover] & age-toning to boards, which are splayed a bit. Withal, still a VG copy.

Newton imprints relatively scarce, with Fleck stating this issue, "less common than the lemon colored version."; this the 5th title to be catalogued by Winterich.
