First edition, 1st printing, stated, of this extraordinary reference work researched, organized and published by Roy Yoshiyiki Higashi (1922-1998) detailing from oral interview sources, family records, census records, and War Relocation Center records the Japanese-American immigration into the Columbia River Valley, and the impact of their illegal relocation to Assembly Camps and War Relocation Centers during World War II. He has included map diagrams for the Pinedale Assembly Center in Pinedale, CA; the short-lived Portland Assembly Center at the Expo Center, as well as maps for Tule Lake, Minidoka, and Heart Mountain Relocation Camps where the majority of the Columbia River Japanese-Americans were incarcerated and held after having the majority of their properties and possessions seized, stolen, or sold for a pittance. Extended family connections and military services have also been carefully cross-referenced, offering one of the most significant research tools for Columbia River region Japanese-Americans. Higashi himself was interned at Heart Mountain, served in the U.S. Army in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and rose to rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
