Horatio Collins King, a Major and Quartermaster in the U.S. Army during the Civil War, received the Medal of Honor for his actions near Dinwiddie Courthouse, Virginia, on March 31, 1865. He was cited for gallantry in carrying orders to a reserve brigade and participating in a charge that repulsed the enemy. He later received the brevet of Colonel for his service during the Battle of Five Forks and the James River raid, where he brought up reserves to repel a Confederate charge. King's Medal of Honor citation specifically highlights his bravery in delivering orders to the reserve brigade and his participation in the decisive charge that helped turn the tide of battle. This action occurred during the final stages of the war, near the end of the Appomattox Campaign.
Small stain ( ¾” round) at top of image, exhibits some soiing and wear, very light manuscript “ Gen H.C. King” below image. The main body of the image has good contrat and tonality. Back of mount is blank. Scarce Civil War related image.
