1904 Plantiff’s Bond, 14 x 8 ½, in the United States Court in the Indian Territory, Southern District. Signed by U.S. Marshall B.H. Colbert .
Benjamin served with Troop F of the 1st US Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (The Rough Riders) and fought during the Spanish-American War at San Juan Hill under Theodore Roosevelt's command. He was cited for bravery by the Cuban government. The town of Colbert, where he was born when Oklahoma was Indian Territory, was named after his family. When Roosevelt became president, Colbert, who had been closely associated with him, was appointed U.S. Marshal for the southern district of Indian Territory .
