World War I album, 8 x 5 1/2 string tied blue wraps with floral design on cover, consisting of 90 photographs, postcard size ( 3 ½ x 5 ½).
First image has a view of the camp with caption “ Kriegsgefangenenlager Crossen 1914-1916” (KGFL, Prisoner of war camp Crossen (Crossen an der Oder). During World War I, German prisoner-of-war camps were run by the 25 Army Corps Districts. Crossen was under the III Army Corps (Berlin). Krosno Odrzańskie ] (German: Crossen an der Oder) is a town in Lubusz Voivodeship in western Poland, on the east bank of Oder River, at the confluence with the Bóbr.
The album chronicles the prisoner of war camp for Russians, illustrating varied aspect of life. The views are captioned in English, and Include are images of the grounds, the Prison church, the Hospital, the Russian Orchestra, Bread Detail, Water Detail, etc. The last photograph is of a US Marine outfit (“Major Berry’s detachment in Germany”), which might explain the English captions.
All but the last photograph (a postcard) are pasted on the album page (the one exception being one card that was tipped in but removed and loose).
Covers are worn, back cover detached. Internal pages age toned, exhibits use and wear. The photographs are in fine condition, with good contrast, tonality and clarity.
