Wisconsin, H H Bennett, 1890s
Very Good
Interesting lot of 18 different stereoviews of Wisconsin scenery by H H Bennett. Six of the views are oversize views. Three of them are around Wisconsin Dells and three are near Devils Lake. (Wisconsin views 1026, 1036, and 1100) Devils Lake (1205, 1206, and 1214). The remaining views are standard size with different color mounts and some different image tones. Eight dark yellow mounts (29, 40, 91, 96, 99, 126, 144, and 145). Three cream mounts (111, 267, and 433). Last is a light yellow mount (405). The images are all clean. *Henry Hamilton Bennett (1843 – 1908) was an American photographer famous for his pictures of the Dells of the Wisconsin River and surrounding region taken between 1865 and 1908. The popularity of his photographs helped turn the city of Wisconsin Dells into a tourist destination. The best known photograph taken by Bennett with this device was an 1886 image of his son Ashley jumping between two rock formations in the Dells. Some light mount wear. The stereoscope is an Underwood Sun Sculpture Stereoscope c1901). Wood frame and slide and silver tin face rest. The viewer is very clean. The inside of the view port looks to have been repainted. Lenses are good. Overall a nice clean set.
